PDF Booklet Maker FAQ
PDF booklet maker FAQ
This FAQ matches the on-page errors and the help drawer. Limits: soft warn at 50 MB or 100 pages; hard reject at 400 pages or 200 MB. Encrypted PDFs are rejected with no password field. Encrypted means: remove the password elsewhere, then try again. Your file was not uploaded.
The PDF booklet maker on the home page, the saddle-stitch imposition alias, the creep calculator, and the page-order calculator share one engine. Slot assignment, creep sign, and gutter side cannot differ between preview and either export quality. Print embed uses Form XObjects; embed failure flattens at 300 ppi. Preview-quality export is JPEG at 144 ppi. CropBox is artwork when present, otherwise MediaBox. Bleed is a user inset. Zero bleed means that box is trim. There is no printer-mark scanner.
If export looks right and the printout does not, check duplex (long-edge for landscape 2-up), scale 100%, and that the printer’s own booklet mode is off. Back upside down is a flip-edge problem, not a page-order bug. Raise gutter if staples bite letters. Raise total creep if outer pages look tight at the fore-edge after folding a thick stack. Mixed sizes warn and default to fit-inside. Right-to-left documents still use physical page numbers 1…N.
Privacy: no accounts, no file POST or PUT, settings in booklet-imposer.v1 without PDF bytes or filenames. Ads, if the operator enables AdSense, stay behind Allow ads. Export is free either way. Contact is email only.
Questions
Does my PDF get uploaded?
No. Processing is local in your browser. We do not PUT or POST the file.
Why extra blank pages?
Saddle stitch needs a multiple of 4. Blanks are added only at the end and listed in the UI.
Which duplex setting?
For a landscape 2-up sheet, Flip on long edge, 100% scale, printer booklet mode off.
Is this a color or RIP tool?
No. Page geometry only. Not a prepress color workflow.
Is it free?
Yes. No Pro tier. Export is not gated on ads.
Do I need an account?
No accounts, email, or cloud library.
Does it handle mixed page sizes?
Yes, with a warning. Default is fit-inside, centered on page 1’s slot. Fill-and-crop is optional.
What about right-to-left documents?
Imposition uses physical page numbers 1…N. It does not mirror for RTL reading culture.
